The Biggest Mistake You Can Make When Setting New Goals

The Goal took longer to finish than he thought it would, and he became frustrated. And, because he didn’t cease to look at what he had achieved, he dropped his driveand focus. Before he knew it, the Goal and the chances it would have attracted
— was abandoned. Sound familiar?

Setting Impractical Goals

When researching potential aims, you have to unleash yourcreativity and ambition, place your reservations apart, and dream big dreams. However, as soon as you’ve decided on a target, make sure it is realistic, and you may achieve it at the time frame you’ve set on your own. For example, if your purpose is to run a marathon, it is wildly unrealistic to register for another month unless you have already completed a few months of training. Or, even if your objective is to become CEO of a business eventually, but you don’t have any expertise, this target may not be sensible — not yet!

Abandoning Goals That Bring You, Bliss

Although this is an ambitious but achievable list of goals, there’s a possible problem: these goals focus only on your career. You have omitted goals from other parts of your life. Imagine that you’ve just written your list of goals for the next year. You have dedicated yourself to increasing your earnings by 15 percent, using marketing, and reading a single direction book every month. When you establish your objectives, make sure that you strike the ideal balance between different areas of your life. And keep in mind that “balance” differs for everybody — use the Wheel of Life tool to understand which areas of your life you want to focus on most. Many men and women concentrate solely on their work whenever they set goals. However, you can’t neglect tasks that bring you joy. Goals like writing a book, engaging in an adventure race, or starting a home garden might likewise be vitally important for your happiness and well-being.

Miscalculating Completion Time

 

How frequently has a job or project taken longer than you believed? You may also say the same for goals that you’ve set in the past. So, use Act Programs and effective preparation strategies when planning your
objectives. And always pad your timelines to account for delays and setbacks. If you add extra time to your quote, you will feel less stress to hurry and finish by a specific date. In case you don’t quote target completion time accurately, it may be discouraging when things take longer to reach than you think they need to. It can cause you to give up.

 

Not Escalating Failure

No matter how hard you work, you will fail to achieve goals from time to time. We’ve all been there, and it isn’t enjoyable! Therefore, don’t be too angry if you cannot achieve your goals — take note of where you went wrong and use this knowledge to reach your goals next time around. However, your failures are what ultimately determine your personality. Additionally, they contain lessons that may change your life for the very best when you dare to learn from them.

Setting more than one Goal.                              

Remember, your work’s success towards a goal rests on focusing on just a couple of things at one time. If you restrict the number of goals you’re working on, you’ll have the time and energy you need to do something very well! The problem with this is that you’ve got a fixed time and energy. If you try to focus on many different goals simultaneously, you can’t give individual goals the attention they deserve. When you begin setting goals, you might see many things that you want to achieve. So you get started setting goals in all areas. Instead, use the “quality, not quantity” rule when setting targets. Work out the relative significance of everything you want to accomplish within the next six to twelve months.
